Actias dubernardi
is a visually stunning Saturniid moth species native to China, commonly known as the Chinese Moon Moth. It is admired for its soft pastel green coloration, long tails, and elegant wing shape. Though short-lived as adults, this species is highly prized in Lepidoptera breeding due to its beauty and relatively manageable care requirements.
These moths are large, delicate, and moderately easy to rear, making them suitable for hobbyists with basic experience in Saturniidae care.
Environment: Mesh enclosure or large ventilated container for adults; rearing containers or potted host plants for larvae
Humidity: Moderate; good airflow is important, especially during final instars and pupation
Diet (larvae): Primarily Pinus (pine) species; some strains may accept Larix or Pseudotsuga
Behavior: Larvae are solitary, slow-moving, and pupate in loose silk cocoons among leaf litter; adults are nocturnal and do not feed
Temperature: 20–24 °C (avoid overheating, especially during pupal stage)
Note: Host plant quality is critical—always use fresh, pesticide-free pine needles. Pupae require a cool, dry rest period before emergence. Adults typically live 5–8 days and should not be disturbed while expanding wings.
