Ceranchia apollina
commonly known as the Ghostly Silkmoth, is a large Saturniid native to Madagascar. With its bright white wings and striking golden cocoons, it is one of the most visually impressive moth species available.

This species is almost impossible to raise successfully in captivity because its natural host plant, Plectaneia thouarsii, is extremely difficult to source. For this reason, Ceranchia apollina is typically kept for display purposes only, with breeding being extremely challenging.

Environment: Mesh cage or well-ventilated enclosure for adults. Provide ample space as adults are strong fliers and easily damage their wings in small enclosures.

Humidity: Moderate. Lightly mist the enclosure and ensure good airflow to prevent mold.

Diet (larvae): Larvae feed almost exclusively on Plectaneia thouarsii. Alternative Apocynaceae plants (Plumeria, Carissa, Nerium, etc.) have been attempted but usually fail, resulting in poor survival rates.

Behavior: Larvae are solitary feeders and pupate in golden silk cocoons attached to leaves or in debris. Adults are strong, graceful fliers best suited for display in large, open cages.

Temperature: 20–28 °C is ideal. Cooler temperatures slow development.
