Ceratophysella spec. “Lilac”
is a striking springtail species known for its soft lilac coloration. These tiny, soil-dwelling invertebrates are popular for bioactive terrariums as they help break down organic matter and prevent mold.
This species is hardy, fast breeding, and suitable for beginners and experienced keepers alike.
Environment: Keep in a small plastic container with a tight-fitting lid and ventilation holes. Use a 2–3 cm substrate layer of damp charcoal, coco fiber, or a soil mix.
Humidity: Maintain high humidity (80–95 percent). Mist lightly as needed to keep the substrate moist but not waterlogged.
Diet: Feed on decaying plant material, fungal growth, and detritus. Supplement with small amounts of yeast, powdered fish food, or rice grains to maintain strong cultures.
Behavior: Extremely small and secretive. They stay on or under the substrate and are active in large numbers once established.
Temperature: Best kept between 20 and 26 °C. They tolerate slightly cooler temperatures but breed more slowly.
