Eublaberus distanti
is a large and robust roach species native to Central and South America, commonly known as the six-spot cave roach due to the dark symmetrical markings on its thorax. Adults are light brown to tan with fully developed wings, and nymphs are darker with a rougher texture. It is a popular species for display, cleanup crews, and feeders due to its hardiness and high reproductive rate.
These roaches are fast-moving, burrow readily, and thrive in warm, humid environments with ample organic material. They are non-climbing and cannot fly, making them easy to manage in enclosures.
Environment:
Large plastic tub or terrarium with secure lid; substrate 5–10 cm deep consisting of coconut fiber, leaf litter, and decaying wood; add cork bark, egg crates, or bark slabs for shelter and surface area
Humidity:
Keep humidity at 70–80 percent. Mist one side of the enclosure lightly every 2–3 days while leaving the other side dry for microclimate balance
Diet:
Omnivorous detritivore. Offer fruits, vegetables, dry dog food, fish flakes, and leaf litter. Protein sources should be provided weekly to support breeding. Always supply a calcium source such as crushed eggshell or cuttlebone
Behavior:
Burrowing and highly active. Nymphs stay mostly underground, adults hide under bark or substrate but become visible when feeding. They are peaceful and thrive in large groups
Temperature:
Maintain between 26 and 30 °C. They tolerate 22–32 °C, but breeding slows below 25 °C
