Euphrynichus bacillifer

is a tropical whip spider native to Central and East Africa. It features long spiny pedipalps and antenniform first legs used for sensory navigation. This species prefers shaded, humid environments and is highly light-sensitive.

These whip spiders are surface-dwelling and arboreal, often found beneath bark or in crevices. They are shy, nocturnal, and generally not aggressive, making them ideal for display setups that mimic their natural habitat.

Environment:
Tall enclosure preferred (at least 30 cm height) to allow vertical climbing and molting space; use substrate of 5 cm or more composed of coco fiber/peat and leaf litter; include cork bark panels, branches, or hollow wood slabs as climbing surfaces and retreats.

Humidity:
Maintain humidity between 70 and 90 percent; regularly mist the enclosure so substrate and moss stay moist (not soaked), and include a shallow water dish with a stick or bark ledge for drinking.

Diet:
Carnivorous; feed small live insects such as crickets or roaches (pre-killed if necessary); offer prey twice weekly for juveniles, less frequently for adults.

Behavior:
Strictly nocturnal and highly photophobic; will freeze or retreat when disturbed; often remain hidden under bark during the day and emerge at night to hunt or explore Temperature:
Ideal range is 24 – 30 °C; ambient room temperatures (20 °C) are tolerated but expect slower growth; avoid heaters that overheat—heat mats on sides are better than under-tank lamps 

Lifespan:
Estimated at 5 to 10 years, similar to other Amblypygi
