Rhombodera kirbyi

A mantis species native to Southeast Asia, known for its impressive size, bright green leaf-like appearance, and powerful predatory behavior. Highly valued in the hobby for its calm temperament, easy to keep, striking shield-shaped thorax, and robust build, making it a favorite among keepers who enjoy large display species.

Environment: A well ventilated enclosure with vertical twigs and artificial or live plants for perching. Space must allow safe molting.

Humidity: Moderate to high. Light misting is sufficient, but good airflow is essential to prevent mold and stuck molts.

Temperature: 24–30 °C is ideal. Cooler conditions slow growth.

Diet: Start nymphs on small flies (Drosophila melanogaster ). Larger nymphs and adults take houseflies, bluebottles, and other flying insects of appropriate size. Small roaches are also possible. Avoid crickets as these can be bad to feed them.

Looks: Nymphs show a range of colors green to brown. Cannibalistic if kept together, rear individually.
