Rothschildia erycina
is a large and visually stunning silkmoth species from the Saturniidae family, native to Central and South America. Known for its bold wing patterns and striking coloration, this species is a favorite among silk moth breeders and display keepers.
These moths are large, short-lived as adults, and require careful attention during the larval stage, making them best suited for experienced keepers of Lepidoptera.
Environment: Spacious mesh enclosure or flight cage for adults; ventilated containers with fresh host plants for larvae
Humidity: Moderate; avoid excess moisture during pupation, but maintain ambient humidity during larval development
Diet (larvae): Fresh leaves from Ligustrum, Cinnamomum, or Fraxinus species (depending on regional strain and acceptance)
Behavior: Adults are nocturnal and do not feed; caterpillars are calm, feed steadily, and pupate in silk cocoons
Temperature: 22–26 °C
