Anadenobolus monilicornis
is a medium-sized millipede species native to the Caribbean and northern parts of South America, now also established in southern Florida. It is recognized for its striking yellow-and-black banded appearance, smooth cylindrical body, and active surface-dwelling behavior. Its bold colors and ease of care make it a favorite for both hobbyists and educational displays.
These millipedes are hardy, social, and relatively easy to keep, making them suitable for beginners as well as advanced keepers who want an attractive cleanup crew or display species.
Environment: Tropical terrarium setup with deep moist substrate, plenty of leaf litter, cork bark, and hiding places
Humidity: Moderate to high; keep substrate moist but not waterlogged, allow top layer to dry slightly between mistings
Diet: Decaying hardwood leaf litter, rotting wood, vegetables, and fruits; offer supplemental calcium (cuttlebone or powdered)
Behavior: Active foragers, often seen on the surface; may curl up when disturbed; safe to keep in small groups
Temperature: 22–26 °C
Shipped as a mix of healthy juveniles and subadults
