Ardentiella sp. ‘Lava’
is a breathtaking isopod species featuring deep red to lava-orange coloration with contrasting dark undersides. Its vibrant hues and energetic disposition make it a standout for experienced keepers seeking a unique addition to their collection.
These isopods are medium-to-large, active climbers, and display high curiosity. They are not recommended for beginners, but once their needs are met, they thrive and reproduce readily in captivity.
Environment:
Escape‑proof tropical terrarium or ventilated container with vertical climbing surfaces include forest moss, leaf litter, twigs with lichen, cork bark, or tree bark.
Humidity:
Moderately high—maintain substrate moisture around 60–75%, mist periodically while leaving small dry pockets for airflow .
Diet:
Decaying plant matter, rotting wood, forest moss/lichen; supplement occasionally with fruits/vegetables (e.g., carrot), fish flakes or gammarus shrimp for protein; provide calcium via cuttlebone, limestone, or oyster shell
Behavior:
Energetic, exploratory climbers capable of scaling plastic or bark surfaces; active both day and night .
Temperature:
Ideal range: 19–26 °C; slightly cooler temps accepted, but avoid higher heat.
Shipped as a mix of healthy juveniles and subadults
