Armadillidium peraccae
is a medium-sized isopod species native to Greece and surrounding Mediterranean regions. Characterized by its coarse, bumpy exoskeleton, it is well-suited to temperate and semi-arid vivarium environments
These isopods are medium-sized, hardy, and easy to care for, making them an excellent starter species or clean‑up crew in bioactive enclosures.
Environment: Dry to semi-moist enclosure with cork bark, rocks, leaf litter, and a small moist retreat area (about one-third of the enclosure)
Humidity: Low to moderate; maintain a moisture gradient—keep ~25–50% of the base moist under hides while most of the enclosure remains dry with adequate ventilation
Diet: Detritivorous omnivore—offer decaying leaves and wood, vegetables, fruits, fish flakes or shrimp pellets for protein, and provide calcium supplements like cuttlebone or oyster shell
Behavior: Active scavengers, often visible at night; can serve as efficient clean-up crews in vivariums and tolerate a variety of moisture levels
Temperature: 20–25 °C (68–77 °F), tolerating brief daily dips or increases without issue
- Shipped as a mix of healthy juveniles and subadults
