Cubaris sp. “Pak Chong”
is a distinctive isopod species originating from limestone-rich environments near Pak Chong, Thailand. It is known for its blue to grey body with orange or red markings and clean white edges. This species is popular among collectors due to its appearance and relatively consistent breeding in stable enclosures.
These isopods are medium sized, moderately active, and well suited for experienced keepers who can maintain stable conditions with proper airflow and moisture control.
Environment: Use a ventilated container with at least 7 to 10 centimeters of substrate. A suitable mix includes coconut fiber, leaf litter, decayed wood, and sphagnum moss. Provide bark pieces, cork tubes, or other hides for shelter and surface activity
Humidity: Maintain 60 to 80 percent humidity with a gentle gradient. Keep one side moist with moss or wet substrate and the other side slightly drier to avoid condensation and mold
Diet: Feed primarily on decaying leaves and soft wood. Supplement two to three times weekly with vegetables like carrot or squash. Offer protein sources such as fish flakes or dried shrimp weekly and provide a constant calcium source such as cuttlebone or crushed oyster shell
Behavior: Surface active and social. They prefer humid microhabitats but will explore in the open when conditions are ideal. They do not burrow deeply but may dig slightly during molting. Colonies reproduce steadily when provided with stability
Temperature: Ideal range is 22 to 26 degrees Celsius. They tolerate short drops to 20 or peaks to 28 but may decline in health if exposed to extremes for long periods
