Cubaris sp. “White Shark”
is a small Southeast Asian isopod known for its pale white to bluish coloration with clean edges along the body segments. This species is highly sought after for its unique appearance.
These isopods are hardy, and easy to maintain, suitable for both beginner and experienced keepers.
Environment: Tropical terrarium setup with at least 10 cm of moist substrate consisting of coconut fiber, decaying leaf litter, rotting hardwood, and sphagnum moss. Provide plenty of cork bark and hides to create secure microhabitats.
Humidity: Moderate to high. Maintain a moisture gradient with one side consistently damp and the other side slightly drier to reduce mold and allow choice.
Diet: Feed decaying leaves, soft rotting wood, vegetables like carrot or squash, and occasional protein sources such as fish flakes or dried shrimp. Always provide a calcium source like cuttlebone or powdered oyster shell.
Behavior: Mostly hidden during the day and active at night. White Shark isopods are small, sensitive to disturbance, and reproduce slowly, making patience and a stable enclosure essential.
Temperature: Ideal range is 22–26 °C. Temperatures outside this range can stress the colony and slow reproduction.
