Heterometrus silenus
commonly known as the Asian Forest Scorpion (or Vietnamese Forest Scorpion), is a large, glossy black/brown scorpion native to Southeast Asian tropical forests. Known for its robust size, docile nature, and forest-floor habits, this species is ideal for experienced keepers seeking a captivating arachnid.

These scorpions are large, burrowing, and moderately easy to care for—but they require stable, humid environments and are best suited to hobbyists familiar with arachnid husbandry.

Environment: Horizontal terrarium or sturdy, ventilated container (minimum 10 gal/40 × 25 × 30 cm); include 7–10 cm deep substrate (peat/soil/eco‑earth), cork bark hides, leaf litter, and wood pieces

Humidity: High – maintain 70–80% (can reach up to 85%) with regularly moistened substrate and shallow water dish
Diet (adults): Live insects—crickets, roaches, mealworms—fed weekly (2–3 appropriately sized prey items)
Behavior: Nocturnal, burrowing species; may mimic threat with pincers but sting is mild; avoid frequent handling
Temperature: Daytime 22–30 °C (75–85 °F), cool end can drop to 20 °C (70 °F) at night; heat mat on side with gradient recommended
