Porcellio expansus 'La Sénia'
is one of the largest isopod species in the world, originating from the La Sénia region in Spain. Known for its broad, flattened body and prominent uropods, this impressive locality displays a slate-grey coloration and commanding presence, making it highly desirable among advanced keepers.
These isopods are very large, slow-growing, and require excellent ventilation, best suited for experienced hobbyists who can replicate their dry, rocky habitat.
Environment: Mediterranean enclosure with stacked cork, bark, and rocks for shelter and surface space
Humidity: Low to moderate; keep the enclosure mostly dry with a moist corner maintained at all times
Diet: Decaying leaves, wood, protein-rich foods (e.g. fish flakes), and a strong calcium source
Behavior: Bold and often visible, slow-moving, appreciates wide open space and airflow
