Porcellio haasi “Bardenas”
is a large and hardy isopod native to the Bardenas Reales region in Spain. This morph is known for its muted brown and grey coloration with slightly lighter edging. It is active, strong, and ideal for keepers who enjoy bold, visible isopods.

These isopods are surface active, fast moving, and do best with good ventilation and a dry to moderately humid setup.

Environment: Large terrarium or bin with at least 10 cm of substrate composed of organic soil, leaf litter, and rotting wood. Add pieces of cork bark and rocks to create hides and climbing surfaces.

Humidity: Low to moderate. Keep most of the enclosure dry with a small damp mossy corner for hydration. Good airflow is essential for this species.

Diet: Feed a base of decaying leaves and hardwood. Supplement with vegetables, occasional fruit, and protein sources such as fish flakes or dried insects. Provide constant access to calcium using cuttlebone or crushed oyster shell.

Behavior: Large and confident. They are often visible during the day and thrive in colonies. They reproduce steadily under the right conditions.

Temperature: Best kept between 20–26 °C. Cooler temperatures slow activity and reproduction.
