Porcellio ornatus “White Skirt”
is a naturally occurring morph from the Almería mountains in Spain, with distinctive white edging around its body. It is medium to large in size (up to ~2 cm) and active, sometimes showing climbing behavior in terraria.
These isopods are hardy and breed well under moderate moisture and good airflow conditions, making them suitable for both novice and experienced keepers.
Environment:
Tropical or woodland-style setup with substrate of potting soil or coconut fiber, leaf litter, rotting wood, and moss
Humidity:
Medium; maintain 25–33% moist substrate mixed with drier areas; high ventilation is essential
Diet:
Decaying leaves and wood as staple; supplement weekly with vegetables (carrot, squash), fruit, fish flakes or dried shrimp, and always a calcium source like cuttlebone or eggshell
Behavior:
Surface-active and social; visible during day and night; may climb and explore bark pieces
Temperature:
20–26 °C (68–79 °F)
Shipped as a mix of healthy juveniles and subadults
Weather appropriate packaging with insulation or cooling if needed
