Telodeinopus aoutii
is a large tropical millipede species native to Central and West Africa. It features a long, smooth, glossy body with light brown to ivory coloration and subtle darker banding. This species is active at dusk and night and prefers humid, leaf-litter-rich environments.
These millipedes are hardy, easy to care for, and suitable for both beginner and experienced keepers. They form stable colonies in well-maintained naturalistic enclosures.
Environment: Sealed or semi-sealed terrarium (minimum 30 x 30 x 30 cm); provide at least 10 cm of deep, rich substrate made of organic soil, decaying leaves, rotting wood, sphagnum moss, and a calcium source like crushed oyster shell or cuttlebone
Humidity: Keep humidity between 70 and 90 percent; substrate should remain lightly moist at all times without becoming soggy
Diet: Primarily feeds on decomposing organic matter including leaves and wood; supplement 1–2 times per week with vegetables or fruits (such as cucumber or sweet potato); calcium should always be available
Behavior: Nocturnal and moderately burrowing; often hides under bark or deep leaf layers; peaceful and does well in groups
Temperature: Maintain between 22 and 26 °C; short-term tolerance from 20 to 28 °C, but avoid rapid changes
