Troglodillo sp. Soil
is a hardy isopod species appreciated for its smooth matte body, pale brown to gray coloration, and distinctive white antennae and legs. These isopods are surface active and non-burrowing, making them highly visible and easy to monitor in well-maintained enclosures.
These isopods are medium-sized, fast-reproducing, and excellent for bioactive setups or display colonies. They are beginner-friendly but still benefit from stable humidity and naturalistic environments.
Environment: Semi-sealed container or terrarium with good airflow; substrate of organic soil, sphagnum moss, leaf litter, and rotting wood; include bark pieces and crevices for shelter
Humidity: Medium to high humidity; keep most of the substrate moist but not soaked, and allow some drier areas for ventilation
Diet: Decaying leaves and wood as a staple; supplement with soft vegetables, fish flakes or dried shrimp, and a constant calcium source such as cuttlebone or oyster shell
Behavior: Active on the surface and under bark, rarely burrowing; social and visible when conditions are favorable
Temperature: 20–26 °C preferred; tolerates 18 °C short term and should not be exposed above 28 °C for long durations
Shipped as a mix of healthy juveniles and subadults
Weather-appropriate packaging with insulation or cooling if needed
