Yuukianura aphoruroides “Orange Springtail”
is a vibrant orange springtail species prized for its coloration and usefulness in bioactive terrariums. These tiny invertebrates help recycle organic matter, control mold, and maintain a healthy substrate ecosystem.
This species is hardy, fast breeding, and an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced keepers.
Environment: Keep in a small plastic container with a secure lid and ventilation holes. Use a 2–3 cm layer of moist substrate such as charcoal, coco fiber, or a soil-based mix.
Humidity: Maintain high humidity (80–95 percent). Mist as needed to keep the substrate moist but avoid waterlogging.
Diet: Feed on decaying plant material, mold, and detritus. Supplement regularly with powdered fish food, yeast, or rice grains to keep cultures thriving.
Behavior: Extremely small, secretive, and active in large numbers once established. They tend to stay within the substrate but will surface when disturbed.
Temperature: Ideal range is 20–26 °C. Cooler temperatures slow reproduction.
