commonly known as the Madagascar Bullseye Moth, is a large and colorful Saturniid native to Madagascar and surrounding regions. Known for its vibrant eye spots and hardy nature, it is a popular species for beginner and advanced Lepidoptera keepers alike.
These moths are robust, fast-growing, and highly adaptable, making them suitable for breeding, display, and educational purposes.
Environment: Mesh cage or ventilated enclosure for adults; fresh-cut host plant branches or container setups for larvae
Humidity: Moderate; mist lightly and ensure good ventilation, especially during pupation
Diet (larvae): Accepts a wide range of host plants including Ligustrum (privet), Salix (willow), Prunus (cherry), Nerium (oleander), Liquidambar (sweetgum), and others
Behavior: Larvae are solitary and change color across instars; pupation occurs in loose silk cocoons between leaves or on the substrate
Temperature: 20–28 °C; tolerates slightly cooler or warmer conditions, though development may slow
Shipped as a mix of healthy eggs-caterpillars-cocoons
Weather-appropriate packaging with insulation or cooling if needed
Shipping only when temperatures allow safe delivery
