Cubaris sp. “Rubber Ducky”
is one of the most recognizable and sought-after Cubaris species, named for its yellow, duck-like face markings. Native to limestone caves in Thailand, this species combines unique appearance with fascinating behavior, but requires precise care to thrive in captivity.
These isopods are small, slow-reproducing, and sensitive to environmental instability, recommended only for experienced keepers with well-controlled setups.
Environment: Tropical bioactive setup with deep substrate, moss, bark, and limestone pieces
Humidity: High (85–90%); maintain constant moisture with minimal airflow loss
Diet: Decaying leaves, soft vegetables, protein (e.g. shrimp pellets), and calcium (limestone preferred)
Behavior: Reclusive, fossorial, prefers to stay hidden in crevices or burrowed
Temperature: 22–25 °C
