Cubaris sp. “Salmon Martinique”
is a medium sized isopod species originating from Martinique, valued for its distinctive salmon pink coloration and rounded body shape. It is hardy and adaptable, making it a good choice for both intermediate and experienced keepers.
These isopods are active at night, highly visible when established, and breed steadily in stable environments.
Environment: Tropical terrarium setup with at least 10 cm of moist substrate made of coconut fiber, decaying leaf litter, rotting wood, and sphagnum moss. Include plenty of cork bark and other hides to create secure microhabitats.
Humidity: Moderate to high. Maintain a moisture gradient by keeping one side of the enclosure consistently damp and the other slightly drier to prevent mold.
Diet: Provide decaying leaves and soft rotting wood as a staple. Supplement with vegetables such as carrot and squash and add protein sources like fish flakes or dried shrimp once a week. A calcium source such as cuttlebone or oyster shell must be available at all times.
Behavior: Medium sized, confident, and often visible once the colony is established. Colonies reproduce steadily when given minimal disturbance.
Temperature: Ideal range is 22–26 °C. They tolerate slightly cooler conditions but breed more slowly outside their preferred range.
