Porcellio succinctus ‘Black Ribs’
is a striking isopod species known for the prominent dark longitudinal striping on its segmented back, giving it the appearance of "black ribs". This locality or morph stands out for its contrast and defined patterning.
These isopods are medium-sized, hardy, and moderately active, well-suited for experienced hobbyists who can provide dry-biotope conditions with proper ventilation.
Environment: Mediterranean setup with ample cork bark, rocks, and dry leaf litter
Humidity: Low to moderate; maintain a dry enclosure with a slightly damp corner
Diet: Decaying leaf material, dry wood, protein sources (e.g. fish flakes), and calcium
Behavior: Bold, often visible, appreciates wide surface area and good airflow
Temperature: 20–26 °C
